These are the rules for using Gist. Using the site means you agree to them. They are written plainly on purpose.
The short version. Gist gives you one page per lecture. It is study notes, not answers, and it is not a reason to skip class. The sheets are for you, not for the group chat. Right now everything is free. When that changes, you will be told before you are charged, and you can cancel any time.
Gist is run by Vernon Clay as an independent project. It is not operated by, endorsed by, or affiliated with Morehouse College or any other school. Vernon also works as a tutor at Morehouse; that is a separate role. College tutoring never requires buying anything from Gist, and nothing on Gist is part of any college service. Gist produces a one-page summary of a lecture, built from a recording of that lecture and photographs of the board.
Gist is a study aid. It is not:
Sheets are produced with the help of AI and reviewed before they are published. Mistakes are possible. Check anything that matters against your own notes and your professor. If you find an error, tell me and I will fix it.
You are responsible for following your school's academic integrity rules. Gist is intended as permitted study support. Do not use it in any way your instructor or school prohibits, and never during an exam unless your instructor has said you may.
You sign in with a Google account, and that account is your identity on Gist. Keep it to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under it. One account is for one person.
Gist is currently in beta testing. During the beta:
You will not be charged during the beta, and you will be told before the beta ends and any charging begins. No card is required to join.
When paid plans go live, the price shown at checkout is the price. Payments are processed by Stripe, and Gist never handles your card.
If a sheet you paid for is not delivered, or is wrong in a way that makes it useless, email me and I will refund that period. Beyond that, payments already made are generally not refunded, since the material is delivered immediately. I would rather sort out a genuine problem than argue about it, so ask.
When you have access to a sheet, you get a personal, non-transferable licence to read it, print it, and study from it.
You may not:
Sheets may be marked with your name so that shared copies can be traced. Sharing is the one thing that makes this unsustainable for everyone, and accounts that do it can be closed without a refund.
Gist owns the sheets it produces, along with the site, its name, and its design. Professors own their own lectures and course materials. Gist creates original summaries of what was taught. It does not reproduce or distribute a professor's slides, handouts, exams, or other materials.
If you are a professor and you want your course removed from Gist, email me and I will remove it.
Sheets are built from recordings made with permission. If you record a lecture for Gist as a contributor, you confirm you have permission to record it and that you are following your school's rules. Gist can refuse or remove any material.
You can stop using Gist and delete your account at any time. Gist can suspend or close an account that shares sheets, abuses the service, or breaks these terms. If your account is closed for something you did not do, email me and we will sort it out.
Gist is provided as it is. It does not promise uninterrupted service, and it does not promise any academic result. To the extent the law allows, Gist's total liability to you is limited to what you paid in the three months before the problem, which during the beta is zero.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia.
If these terms change in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and anyone with an account gets an email.
